Lachen
Lachen is a town in North Sikkim district in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is located at an elevation of 2,750 metres. The name Lachen means "big pass". The town is being promoted as a tourist destination by the Sikkimese government.
The gate way of North Sikkim is Gangtok. Number of beautiful falls, some are flowing on road, flowers and the beauty of the hills will not allow any one to close their eye. Glimpses of snowcapped mountains and adventure of approaching road is a lifetime experience to visitors. Again River Teesta will be your companion from Mangan to Chungthang conflusion of Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu ( in Sikkemese language Chu means river).
The other adventurous and exciting part is Gurudongmar Lake. Situated at more than 17,800 ft. The green colour lake is sacred for both Sikh and Sikkimese people. The lake is surrounded by snowcapped mountains throughout the year within snowfall zone .On the way to this secret lake the beauty of Thangu village and Chopta valley is unforgettable memory to any visitor. One thing always should keep in mind that the visit to North Sikkim is subject to availability of Protected Area Permit both for Indian and Foreign National Tourist.
